Metro 50cc: already derestricted?

Post by Younescito »

Hi Guys, I don't know if you can answer my question since most of you are in the US but I was wondering if your buddies came unrestricted or if you had to unrestricted them yourselves.

My other question is does gas / mileage get better with time or its the same since day 1. I am not complaining but I had a vino 50cc last year and I feel that the Vino is way quicker than the metro and the gas mileage is a little better. Or its maybe because the Metro is new...

Thanks

PS: I have already done 600 Km with it (approx: 372 miles)

How fast can you get it up to? Here in the USA, our 50cc's are all restricted to 30mph. Dealers can easily de-restrict.

What year Vino did you have? Unrestricted, the Buddy(Metro) 50 will get up to about 45 indicated after a while. Restricted (variator), it will go 30 only. I can't say for acceleration restriced, as the Vino I had and the Buddy I have now were both derestricted when I got them.

The 2 stroke Vino I had would out accelerate my Buddy 50 off the line, but the Buddy has a higher top speed.

With the Buddy 50, even after it is derestricted, you can change the torque a bit by pinching off the part of the exhaust that returns to the inlet (hard to describe, there are two 'pipes' for the exhaust, one that obviously goes straight from the engine to the outlet of the exhaust, and another that kind of loops back on itself and through a rubber hose and canister part). This is part of the pollution control as I understand it. Pinching off the pipe (or even the hose) increases bottom end torque on the Buddy 50 a bit (my wife says she noticed an improvement with how long it takes me to catch up to her on the Buddy 125 when we go from a stop). Lighter roller weights may help too (I haven't done this yet), but will reduce top speed a bit.

I agree, the 2 stroke Vino is very peppy feeling. I prefer the ride and handling of the Buddy though.

Dale.
