Anyone know the best place to get the rear rack for the Rattler?

when you do... put up some pics (maybe take some pics as you make it?)- I agree, the ones I have seen are small.Evans Performance wrote:i plan to just make one myself, all of the ones i have seen are way too small.
I would try it myself, but I dont think it would look good if I built one using my conduit bender or iron pipe

here's one out of 3/4" aluminum tube. go easy on me regarding the welds....been awhile. will make a back rest for the rear rider. there is also a stainless screw (several inches behind the gas filler) that holds the plastic to part of the frame...took that out and put a crossmember right over top of it, spaced it with one washer and installed a longer screw down through the rack. will help with more support for my aluminum trailer that I'll hook up to it.

Thanks! I reckon it took me four to five hours of fiddlin...and about 12 feet of pipe. One of those rectangular 5 gallon gas containers fits on the back nicely....got to try it out yesterday.
I'm going to install some aluminum folding foot pegs for the rear passenger....my kids say the factory foot areas aren't that great...plus I'd like to stick my feet on something more substantial when I take the longer 80 to 90 mile trips.

I must've bought the ONLY Genuine rack in existence! LOL. I love it, and added a tailbag to it as well. My Rattler seems to be a bit ass-heavy (no jokes about it's owner gang!) and I like carrying my extra fuel as low as possible, so I replaced the floor bolts with eyebolts (hard to find in metric) and I'm good to go! To each his own, but this works for me!nissanman wrote:Of course Scooterworks has them. It's the same rack the BlackCat and the Roughhouse use. The part # is something like RRATTBL... do a search and it'll show up in here somewhere. I think it's MattGordon who has the post.
Note that even with extra fuel in front of the C-stand, the rear is heavier than the front. At this picture I had a partial quart of Motul and a bottle of water in the tank bag is all....

I like the tailbag idea. I've also carried some heavy stuff where you have your gas can like a rather large marine battery I was exchanging (some dude at Walmart asked if the scooter ran off of it).
Also wonder where the safest place to carry the gas can would be? 40 lbs on the rack is actually better for handling the scoot than having a 120 pound kid sitting behind me, plus if I lay the scoot down accidently while riding I figure the gas would be behind me with momentum keeping it there. On the other hand, if I hit something like a tree or another car - the fuel could be all over me (not a good thing either).
The smaller quantity of fuel is probably best protected where and how you have it.

They were kind of hard to find, being metric. I had to order them from a boating supply store and theyre stainless steel too....but it woulda' been nice to get them at Lowes.MPA wrote:I have the normal rack, but have yet to use it for anything since I usually have a backpack on.
I do like the eye bolts on the floor to hold a gas can - I would be interested in doing that so I can take a somewhat long ride.

FYI - I just traded emails with Dean at scooterworks
"Hi Tim,
We are out of those right now, the part number is RRRAT1-B and it retails for 59.95 I should hopefully have them in soon.
Regards,
Dean"
FYI - they are off their website until they get them in - he said they will be back on as soon as they get them

Not surprised that Scooter Works is out of them...they seem to be out of everything right now...or at least for the "next 2 to 6 weeks."
I have the stock black tube rack, yes it is small. But it is very strong ! My buddy looped his Rattler out and the first thing to hit the ground was the boat anchor rack and it faired just fine. Just some minor scuffs in the paint.
Although I must admit when you strap stuff down back there, it does make the tail end a bit heavy. I have carried a bunch of things back there. I have had two colapsing chairs tied on, which kinda looked like a spoiler and worked great as a back rest for my girl friend. Although most interesting was when I strapped a 18 pack of Coors Light back there. Talk about about being tail heavy...I almost stacked it up (before I drank anything) a couple of times because of the sloshing around of all the fluid when I was making hard corners. I guess the beer cans need baffles to keep me stable in the corners.

Do you want to make more and sell them? If you do just let me know....barndwellers_md wrote:here's one out of 3/4" aluminum tube. go easy on me regarding the welds....been awhile. will make a back rest for the rear rider. there is also a stainless screw (several inches behind the gas filler) that holds the plastic to part of the frame...took that out and put a crossmember right over top of it, spaced it with one washer and installed a longer screw down through the rack. will help with more support for my aluminum trailer that I'll hook up to it.
