Does your family scoot?
I didn't grow up in a scooter family. My older brother was the first to break the mold with his purchase of an orange 90cc 1979 Vespa a couple of years ago. I'd always wanted a scooter but after seeing his I knew I needed to drive one. So last August I got the Buddy. Everyone in my family thinks it's great. I had it over at my parents house last night and my dad was asking me all kinds of questions about it. Then I asked him if he was thinking about getting one. He said, "naw". A few minutes later my little brother said it was funny, because my dad recently said the same thing ("naw")when asked if he was thinking about getting an ipod touch and a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL that he had his eye on (he ended up buying both).
So thus far it's just my older bro. and I that scoot. How about you? Does your family do the scooter thing? Or is it just you?

My dad started with a 50CC Vespa ET2 about 4 yrs ago and then my mom got a 50CC Vino. Not getting enough umph out of the 50CC scoots, my dad upgraded to a Burgman 650. Since I don't live near my parents and was striken by the scooter bug I bought a b125 last August.
The Vespa is now for sale and my parents purchased a 150 SI buddy about 3 weeks ago. Now I will have something to ride when I visit and it should do a better job of keeping up with the Burgman. Im excited to compare the b150 to the b125. I guess we are a scooter family.

Don't really have a scooting family history, but my dad had an old Honda Passport when I was young. Last Christmas he bought a Helix and after riding it (and figuring that it's making it's own payments in gas savings alone), I started looking into one for myself. I was riding my bike about 25% of the time and driving my mom's cage the other 75% of the time, so I needed my own vehicle (used to have my own car, it got stolen). So I got a Buddy. Now my mom wants one.

no
my mom doesn't even know i've got one and she never will as long as no one tips her off.
it took me 5 years before i let her know my mate had a harley.
she only lives 20 miles away, we put the scooters away when she visits (1 81 lambretta, 1 big ruckus and 1 buddy) and my scooter friends are known as my coffee shop friends.
i'm 49, she's 86.

Nope - I'm the only one. I have a stepbrother that rides MCs but he's much older than I am and was never really in the same house as me growing up. My mom is totally freaked out about me having a scooter and never really wants to talk about it. Other family members think it is fun, but that's about it. I'm the lone soldier.

nope, just me so far.
I grew up in a motorcycle family. My dad raced motocross and he and all my uncles (and grandfather) had Goldwings that they'd take on vacations all over the USA.
I even had my own itty bitty lil 50cc suzuki that I rode as a child...which, today, scares me a little that they let me do that. but i didn't go on the road, just around the farm.
I've been scooting for a year and a half and just recently was visiting with family and was showing off the new buddy. Well all my uncles, grandfather and dad were there and they had all the questions: how fast does it go? how much did it cost? what kind of gas mileage does it get? did you get your M endorsement? Come to find out my dad is the only one of them who ever got his M. I found that hilarious. Anyway, they were all REALLY interested in it and I doubt that they'll buy one, but I can't be certain. Anything could happen.

My partner loves being the passenger on my '07 SI, but doesn't want her own. In her own words, "I tried a scooter on San Juan Island and almost ran it into a wall." Needless to say, we're a one-scoot family.

I wish. My older brothers had something when I was like 5, but nothing since. You know, MC's are dangerous! Now I'm 53 and my kids are grown. I've been riding my scoot for just over a year and I love it. But my wife won't even get on the scooter with me and has no interest whatsoever. My oldest son had a MC for a little while after he moved out and got married. I'm trying to talk my daughter into getting a scooter. She's been talking to her friends about it and has been getting positive feedback. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I started riding motorcycles in 1973. The same year we got married my wife bought her first cycle in 1980. I got my youngest brother into cycles, but then he sold it and never bought another (even though he is beginning to show some interest lately). Now we both have been riding scooters for the last year and another of my younger brother and his lady firend just bought their first scooters and love them. So there are 2 out of us 4 boys riding scooters.

I got the bug first. 6 weeks later my son bought a SYM RV250. My middle daughter is seriously thinking about a scooter and my youngest daughter plans on getting a MC as soon as she starts driving next year.
BTW, my son and I went on our first father/son ride today. 50+ miles out in the country. It was a great ride.

think I might have started it
My father always owned at least one motorcycle. I didn't live with him, but I guess I got the 2-wheel gene along with the "gotta have a nice car" gene.
I got a Honda Elite last year and my seafoam Buddy last March. Soon after that, my husband got a Kymco People S125. Soon after that, my daughter got herself a Pamplona 150 (which I want to ride sometime - what do those +25cc do?) Her husband wants a Stella.

Look, honey, it matches the dishes.

My wife comes from a motorcycle family, but not scooters. When I bought my scooter, I took the Haynes manual with me so her dad (a hard-core Harley Sportser guy) and I could gear-geek out over it. We're looking forward to loading both scoots up and going down to ride with her folks at some point.
My family on the other hand refers to anything on two wheels with a motor as a "murdercycle" and when my dad suspected that I'd bought myself a scooter, he sent me a cheery "well, hope you don't end up in a wheel chair" email. Man, I just have no patience for fear mongering. The giant irony is that he rode a Cushman when he was a kid and yet is alive and well with all his fingers and toes intact.

I didn't grow up with anyone scooting or motorcycling in my family.
When my husband got his motorcycle, it was this HUGE deal. We tried to ease them into the idea, but the word "motorcycle" was spoken, and that was it... They totally do NOT dig me being on the back of a bike... But, I guess they're used to it now (as much as they can be, I guess).
Anyways, I only recently told my mother about my Buddy, and her immediate reply was "Don't tell your Father." Being the obedient daughter that I am... I won't. lol

My dad rode motorcycles in HS (class of '44), and used to entertain us with stories about when he raced with the Throttletwisters M.C. in Ponca City, OK. My younger brother still had Dad's old team shirt a few years back. Mom was supportive, but never wanted to actually ride one herself.
Both my brothers bought motorcycles after HS in the mid 70s. I've always wanted a scooter, but never actually bit -- until now, in my mid 50s. When my mom told my bros about it, the reactions were completely different. Younger brother - who always rode like a demon, had several crashes and broke both legs - immediately said, "She's going to kill herself!" Older brother - responsible rider, still rides his Harley everywhere - said, "Sounds like a good idea. She's always wanted one!"
My son would be begging to ride Bubbles daily, if I hadn't "girled it up" with stickers on the front and a bow on the back. Daughter now has the itch, so she may be joining me soon.
