Should This Very Large Man Get a Scooter

simple ?....
I'm basically an NFL lineman in size:
6'-5" 290 lbs.....

is a Buddy 150cc or a Stella 150cc even a viable option for me??? I only need to reach a top speed of 45 at times...... and I'll never be having a second rider

My Stella rocks and the buddy's tote me around pretty well too.

Have you sat on a Buddy? The seat and floorboard are pretty small. I'm a mere 5' 11", but my size 12 boots take up a lot of space.

There are many large riders who say they're comfortable on it for hours of riding, but it's not a one scoot fits all kind of thing.

Size 12 boots? On a Buddy? Do you fold them up? (8½ EE here.)

As far as large riders go, you might find something like a Stella or a Kymco People 250 more comfortable.

I have a friend who is 6'8" and fits comfortably on the People 250. Just sayin'...

My size 12's fit fine on the buddy. Any bigger and I might reconsider, but at 6'4" and 240 lbs. and size 12 shoes I fit okay.

I'm 5'7" and around 220lbs and I think my Stella does OK at getting me around.

I would not expect a Buddy/Stella to be a race bike with anyone on it, let alone someone who is larger. But I don't see any reason why it would not get you around in style just fine.

Do you live near anyone from the forum who can let you ride theres to see possibly?

Glenny, one of the advantages of the Stella is that it has a flat seat, so you can move up/down on it, where the Buddy has a hump, so you are either infornt, or behind the hump. For a tall person, I would think the Stella seat would be better.

I think i need to hit the local dealer and sit on both (IF they are even in stock).... I like the looks of the Stell a bit more (i guess i like the older look).... but the Buddy just seems like it my be an easier first scooter... with it being an automatic and all.... and the slightly cheaper

Yeah, you'd fit fine on the Stella, but the Buddy is going to be pushing it. I'm 6'4" and 285. I only just fit on my wife's Buddy. I just fit on my Blur, but if I were any taller I don't think I'd be comfortable at all. My P200E though, I fit on that with room to spare. There are also lots of scooters like the Kymco Bet & Win 250 that would probably be perfectly comfortable for you. However, if you're looking for something modern but that looks like more that classic Buddy style, most of those scooters are pretty small. You'd fit on a Vespa GTS 250 I'd bet. It's spendy, but your comfort on the scooter is incredibly important. If it's uncomfortable, you won't want to ride it.

Stellas are a bit more effort, you have to put in 2T oil regularly, you have to shift, etc. But man they are fun!

I have to 2nd that... I sat on a buddy & my size 12's were a little tight - I found the Rattler to have more foot space (although I would reccomend the 50, like I have, for someone your size - maybe check out the 110 - its a 2 stroke)

I'm 6'2" and 280 and I thought I fit fine on a Buddy 125. I didn't feel like a giant but I also felt more at home--sizewise only--on a 250cc motorcyle at MSF school. I think my switching to a Blur is PARTIALLY due to my size as well. But I can easily get up to 60-65 indicated on the Buddy and about 55 ACTUAL speed. I think the fastest I got was with the wind at my back with it's hitting just about 70 indicated...But that was a bit scary IMHO...I was glad to get back to around 50-55 indicated.

My husband is about 6'3" and 350, he will probably take lil' Harry for a few rides. He is probably going to end up getting a larger scooter like the Yamaha Majesty, but he would really like to get a Genuine scooter. Does anyone have any recommendations on the Yamaha Majesty?

How much gas does the Stella hold? When you mention adding 2T oil, is that 2 teaspoons or tablespoons per fillup or a brand/type? I had a Honda Spree back in the eighties and I think I remember adding one or two ounces of 2 stroke oil per gallon when I got gas.

I've heard that the exhaust/muffler system gets a soot build up from the two stroke engines back when I had the Spree. Would the Stellas have the same problem eventually, perhaps having to replace the muffler or both muffler and tailpipe? I enjoyed that scooter even though it didn't go much faster than about 32-34 mph.

Any help on this is appreciated. I like the style of the Stella, just when I think I know what I'll eventually get-Buddy 125 or International-I keep coming back to the Stella...

If he's looking for a maxi-scooter, it may pay to shop around. The Suzuki Burgman 400 is about the same price, as is the Kymco Xciting 500. The Aprilia Scarabeo 500ie is only about $200 more.

For something a little more like a Genuine, maybe the SYM HD200 or RV250, both of which have enough seat space and engine power for a larger rider and are much less expensive.
