How Long Did Your Rear Tire Last

Post by tommybarrettjr »

How many miles are you getting out of rear tires on Buddy's and what kind of tire does it have. My girlfriend's Vespa LX 150 only has 1750 miles on it and the rear tire is showing a lot of wear. I'm guessing its only going to be good for 2,000 to 3,000 miles tops. I consider this unacceptable on the maintenance side. I've always gotten over 10,000 miles on rear cruiser motorcycle tires that I rode much harder than she rides her Vespa. Any suggestions on longer lasting tires than the Michelin City Pilot tires that came on it.

Maybe shes doing burnouts at every redlight when your not around? That mileage does seem unacceptable, and could quite possible be a warranted replacement / repair even thou it is a consumable component. Check into it with Genuine and see what they say. If the tires on my car went bald that fast, you better believe id have a lawyer if the car manufacturer refused to replace them under warranty.

On my original tubed whitewalls I got 4000.

On my new Maxxis whitewalls i'm not quite at 3000 and she's looking pretty rough.

I've been really surprised at how quickly the tires wear.

I'm at 2k and my back tire (tubed Shinko whitewall) seems lower than it ought to be.

Do the same rules for car tires apply to scooter tires?
I was all set to say I was good on the rear tire after 8,000 miles; until I did a penny test.
They say if any part of Lincoln’s head is covered, then there is over 2/32’s of thread remaining.
I’m coming up real short.

If your girlfriend's getting that kind of wear on her tires on her LX 150, then something is wrong. Does she keep it properly inflated? I got over 5K on my last rear Michelin Pilot City (on the Vespa) and I weigh over 200lbs, carry a lot of stuff, have a top case and ride pretty hard.

I was over 7K when I had my back tire replaced. It was kinda squared off and looked like a slick.
