Can't seem to make an Avatar!

Post by babblefish »

OK, so I'm trying to make an avatar, but no matter what I do, it's too big at 36K (using Photoshop CS2). I set the image size to 128x96 which gives dimensions of 0.711w x 0.533h and 180 pixels per inch. I even tried setting the .jpg compression to high without success. I can get the image down to 16K, but then it's really tiny. HELP! :(

You want to set the resolution to 72 pixels/inch. Then be sure to use Save for Web... instead of Save As...

If it still gives you trouble, you can email it to me and I'll check it out.

Yep... go into Save for Web, and that'll pull up a two-up screen where you can set the image size (lower right) and the image quality (upper right).

You probably want it to be a jpg, and you can tweak quality settings to make it look good but still keep the file size small (specifics will appear under the 'optimized' image).
Huh? What just happened?

I love this thread. The NEW Mac OS won't save lower than 56k for me so this is a life saver.

How are you trying to save the avatar using the "New Mac OS"? Preview? Iphoto?

CS3 Pshop.

And I'm trying to make it really tiny, but it doesn't work.

But I'm a writer and you designer types won't even eat lunch with me, much less share the secret keystrokes and tricks that makes Photoshop hum.

But now I see that I can do Save for Web and define the size before saving.

Thanks,

Jeff

I used a free program called 'pix resizer'. Put it in Google and down load it and resize any pictures to any size. Works well for resizing that picture to email someone that is on dialup and file download is slow.
