Price increased from $2699 to $2799 only one week ago!

Post by dakims »

I went in to make the deposit today on the 125 buddy, and was expecting to pay only 2699 plus tax, but when I got there the owner said all the dealers had to raise their price because the cost of shipping from cali to chicago to georiga where I am. That sucks... I also asked if I could get the 2009 buddy because a new shipment wouldn't come in until late august, early september so hopefully I will get a '09.

Prices on the 125 up here in the northeast was $2750 when I got mine last month. And that's pretty much been consistent all year. Maybe they had them listed at the 07 price by mistake and just now bumped it up.

Yeah, this price hike was expected, though the dealer probably could have warned you if they'd known you were planning on making the deposit. (Anyone wanting a Buddy—don't hesitate!)

From what another member heard from Genuine, there will be no difference between '08 and '09 models. I'm not sure if there's any benefit in having the '09 (model year becomes kind of an arbitrary distinction at that point).

I got my Bud (an '07) at the beginning of 2008, because it was cheaper. I think getting the "next year" model might help with the resale value? That is the only advantage I can think of.... I mean, I'm not ever gonna sell mine unless maybe I get another scoot and stop riding the bud (yeah right).

Yeah I only want the '09 because of the resale value as I might have to sell it in two years when I move back to Texas. I figure if I have to wait I might as well wait another month or so and get the '09.

As ericalm noted, the increase in MSRP was expected. Your dealer is soft soaping you a bit on the explanation though. He passes on transportation costs inside the US to you ABOVE the MSRP. Have you had him lay out to you the actual out the door price of your scoot - MSRP, shipping, set-up, taxes, and titling/registration?

Actually, Genuine boosted the price by $100 this month. More for the International.

1) Resale value isn't really based much on YEAR right now. These things are so hot right now, year is almost a non-factor.
2) Yamaha raised prices across the board on their scoots and I expect Honda and Genuine to follow suit.

As Eric said, buy now if you can.

Well, he said its only 2799 plus tax which should be about 7%. There are no setup fees or other shipping costs. I don't know anything about title/registration, I thought you do that at the DMV?

depends on where you are. no set up fees sounds like your dealer is doin it for free. hmm. i'd ask for out the door price and what will be expected at the dmv just to get it right before you walk in with a checkbook.

a what? a checkbook, what's that?

My dealer had 2007 and 2008 models on the floor when I bought mine. When I asked about the difference in price for the different year models I was told,
"Pick which one you want, the price is the same for them all."

I did and am glad. Now there are none to choose.

These were the figures I was quoted @ Sceniccityscooters in Chattanooga, TN: Buddy 125--2599 + 250 setup fee =2849 otd. Or Buddy 150--2999 + 250 setup fee =3249 otd. I would have to pay tax in my state (GA), but that still seems very reasonable to me.
