Blur damage estimate

Post by lynnie_86 »

So my best friends fiance thought he could handle my Blur "le Tigre" and asked if he could ride it. I don't like the asshat but said 'fine' but only for a second. Turns out the f*cker can't handle it and comes back 3 min later saying only "this thing doesn't turn very sharp". Then he proceeds to look at the panel which is ALL scratched up. Instead of being a man and saying he hit the curb and he'd pay for the damage, he says "ugh im sorry, i don't know what to do". THEN HE TRIES TO SAY THE SCRATCH WAS ALREADY THERE! PUSSY! I left in a fit of anger only to find out when I got home that he also got the fork & rotor. :x  So to say the least, I've been a huge bitch and am refusing to be the maid of honor until I get every cent out of the dbag. I'm probably overreacting but there was already bad blood and this just stirred it.

Front Disc- 59.00T
Left Lower Panel- 36.00T
Side Stand- 18.00T
Centerstand- 40.00T
Kickstart Lever- 17.50T
Left front Fork Tube- 114.00T
Replace Damaged Parts 225.00
State Sales Tax 7.15% 20.34
$529.84

So do I demand the total damage estimate or just the cost of the parts I actually plan on replacing? (ie: panel, disc)
LOL i sound like bridesmaidzilla

He should pay for everything that you want replaced. It's up to you what needs replaced.

Lynnie,
sorry about that.
What a creep !
He should pay for everything he damaged, parts AND labor. That would just be the honest thing to do on his part, but since there is already bad blood in there, he might just write you off and walk out of it looking the other way.

Good luck !
Beer is the answer . . . what was the question?

Yeah, that pretty much sucks. Unfortunately, I have a feeling you're going to be stuck with the tab. Like so many people these days, that jerk probably won't take responsibility for his own actions. Hope your friend knows what kind of child she's marrying...

You should go to the asshat and explain what the cost of his ride will cost you, and see if he will pay any part ( probably nothing ). If he pays great, if not inform your friend how disapointed you are that he is not man enough to own up for his actions and explain to her it would be difficult for you to be maid of honor of her marriage to this asshat, because he doesnt have any integrety and will probably cost her money in the future. And dont lend your scoot out for a ride again. I always say no when someone asks if they can try it. Good luck to you.

beware of steering stem beaing (upper and lower) in this type wreck, they could be damaged. Check the handle bar turn freely and smoothness opeartion, otherwise the bike will put to one side when runing striagth line

Lynnie:

Familiar with that part of the wedding ceremony that starts with "If anyone knows of any reason why this man and woman should not be joined in holy matrimony...."? Might be an ideal forum to press your case.

Seriously, if he deadbeats you and you're short on cash you could trim a few bucks off the repair if the side stand, center stand, kick start, and bottom panel are just cosmetically messed up with no actual structural damage. I did my own work after my crash, and it's not as difficult as you might think.

In any event, if you do decide to try a little do-it-yourself, feel free to let me know, and I'll be more than happy to provide as much info as I can.

Regards,

Charlie

Lynnie so sorry to hear that---but never forget rule #1---do not let anyone ride your wheels unless you are POSITIVE they know how AND they leave a cash deposit first. I know the damage seems bad, but it could have been a lot worse. If said D'Bag got into an accident that may have caused an accident where other peoples property were concerned, or worse yet a bodily injury ---you could have been liable for negligence in a court of law since your are the owner of the scoot and turned the keys over to an inexperienced rider. That would have cost you a lot more!

I get the request for rides all the time, but I never honor them. The problem with scoots is that many people view them as "cute" or "toys" and think "how difficult can it possibly be to ride one?"

I had a first hand experience where a long time friend of mine who rode sportbikes with me decided he wanted a taste of the drag bike I built. It was a nitrous feed Hayabusa. I felt "safe" letting him ride it knowing that he was familiar with the power of a sportbike. Needless to say I watched him roll into the throttle hard in 1st gear and the nitrous engage......the rear tire spun loose which sent the bike into a tank-slapper which ejected him one way and the bike careening on it side in a shower of sparks. Fortunately, he came out with only a sprain, some scrapes, and bruised pride. He asked me "How the hell do you ride that thing?" I told him I don't "ride" it, I "drag" it. It was my fault in assuming his ability to ride such bike. A sportbike rider does not a drag bike rider make.

I have been on gas powered 2-wheeled vehicles for 28 yrs. and regardless of my experience, every bike/scooter has had a uniqueness in the way it handled, braked,accelerated..etc. Hopefully, others can learn from your unfortunate experience. If there's any consolation you can tell all the groom's friends how uncoordinated he is and how he messed up your ride. I'm sure it will get back to him and the male ego is so easy to mess with. Who know's, maybe his bro's will bust on him enough to make him pay up!

Ask for it all... and hopefully you'll get at least what you need to replace what you have to (if not all of it). Lawyers cost more than the parts ruined... How much were you planning on spending for their wedding gift? Get them some Blur parts, like when Homer bought Marge a bowling ball as a gift

Captain Asshat needs to pay for the whole thing. That's some serious damage.

How is the fiancee (your friend) taking this?

I tried to teach my wife to ride my scoot to the end of our driveway and she nearly dropped it. So we went and got her a Buddy, which I totaled a few weeks later. Just goes to show: Don't let even your closest loved one ride your scoot. Even if they are experienced, licensed riders, they may still crash it.

You guys are hilarious..I LOVE IT! thanks for everything...even the Hayabusa story!

I still have not decided yet how he will be punished, but I know for sure that he will not walk away without something dented - be it his pockets or ego.

That's terrible that he's being such a loser about it. I guess I have to ask the obvious question though, is the scooter insured? If your deductible is less than the cost of repair, then it'd be worth just going that route. Your rates won't go up more than you would pay to fix it yourself. It sucks, but your other course of action could be small claims court. "I'll see you in court" could pry open his wallet pretty quickly. But take it to the dealer and get a full, on paper estimate for what it's going to cost to fix it RIGHT. Take that to him and tell him he's got 30 days until he's served by your attorney. You've seriously got nothing to lose. If he's going to be this kind of asshole about something relatively small like this, and you're going to be stuck with him as a spouse to a good friend, then he needs to respect you and your property. You should talk to your insurance agent and see if you have any recourse through them. If they have to pay out to fix your scooter, and have the necessary information, they could actually themselves take Captain Asshat to court to recover THEIR damages. Threaten and then follow through. You shouldn't have to put up with this crap.

If that doesn't get you anywhere, EP_scoot and I could always go rough him up for ya ;-)

Oh and by the way, your insurance company is bound to have an impressive posse of flesh-eating lawyers at their disposal. So if they do decide to go after him, it won't be pretty.

And if you can't get anything resolved financially and you decide to try to fix it yourself to save some $$, Nathaniel and I can help you put things back together. He has plenty of tools and I got some too !

Indeed! We also took EP_scoot's Blur just about half apart getting that Stebel air horn in there! So we know the body panels very well ;-)

(side note: D, you're going to be upset, but I figured out how to drop that horn in my Blur while only removing the horn cover and the seat bucket. I didn't have to touch the nose panels and I didn't have to grind away any plastic. Thanks for being the lab rat! ;-) Goodness that thing is loud!!!)

Also, if you need labor on the cheep, ep_scoot and I could also change out the brake parts and stands. I'm comfortable doing everything on your list short of the fork tube, so that one I might refer you to Scooterville for. Just bring some brew and we'll get you back and rollin' in no time.
