Gas mileage less than 50 per gallon

Post by josephwtyler »

I just bought my 50 cc black buddy a week ago and i have nearly entirely refilled my tank twice now and have only gone 100 miles. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I just had my first refill and only got slightly better mpg than you (~60). I'm hoping/assuming it's partly due to break-in and partly due to any misalignments, etc, that will hopefully be corrected at 1st maintenance. I wouldn't sweat about it too much yet.

I agree about not worrying about it yet. After your first service, run three tanks though it and do an average and let us know what you get then.

Make sure your tire pressure is correct. That's a huge cause of poor fuel economy.

Also, if you just stick the gas pump nozzle into the scooter and wait for it to shut off automatically, you are only filling the tank a little over half way. I hold the bellows back with my hand and fill it up to the top.

Those 50cc bikes are two-stroke, and unfortunately not as fuel efficient as the 125 big brother. You should be getting in the 70-80mpg range.

what fuel are you using? I know the first few times I filled my 125 I used middle grade and have since used the top grade. That seemed to boost my fuel efficency.

I don't think that genuine is over representing their buudy's but you have to imagine that all the data they list was gathered under ideal circumsances. In a lab, using the best fuel they can with the best tuned buddy they could get, or make I suppose.

No way on the 125mpg. maybe 100mpg if you babied the throttle everywhere you went. The thing with 50cc bikes is everyone is full throttle all the time, and I bet when they test these bikes for fuel efficiency they don'g go full throttle.

my point in posting that link was not to say that they necessarily get that mileage, but that a 50cc motor is more fuel efficient than a 125. :-D

50cc 2stoke vs 125 4stoke - thats like saying gas vs diesel, dependsing on what test your doing or looking for you can make either one come out on top.

But like Motorsport Scooters noted, when people are riding the 50cc they are usally WOT where with the 125 you can do a nice cruise at 1/2 throttle.

50cc two strokes are not exactly more efficient than 125cc 4-strokes. The Buddy 50 versus Buddy 125 is a perfect example of what happens in real life versus on paper.
