Windshields again
I know the question's been asked before and I did a search, but I haven't found anyone who's actually mounted a non-Genuine Scooters windshield on a Blur.
Has anyone?
Thanks.

I don't believe I have seen a thread on this forum regarding anyone thats actually done it.
And quite honestly, an aftermarket windshield on the Blur will, well, look "aftermarket". The stock one really does set off the Blur and finish the look of the front end. My only gripe about the PGO/Genuine one is that it is amber and not graphite, and so makes it mistmatch colorwise to the rest of the scooter.

I installed mine this morning - took about 20 minutes. I actually like the look and color on the '06. After my test ride I have to say I think it is pretty useless other than the improved appearence. The screen on my Burgman blocks all most all of the wind and puts me in the cone of silence. I suppose this one will improve aerodynamics and catch some bugs but it isnt what I expected. I'll keep it but I dont think I would recommend it to anyone looking for performance or comfort improvements.

Bump and ponder.
I was looking at the SYM HD 200 the other day and it has a very similar style of headset on it. I'm gonna bat my eye-lashes and see if she might have a windshield in stock of it and take a look to see if it's adaptable.
I'm not one to mind cold weather in the least, but with my summer riding gear, the commute into work the past two days has been a little on the brisk side. I'll definitely need a windshield for, say, November and later.
Has anyone else come across anything that's close? I'm wondering if one for another model might block the hands just a little.

Wow!
So after I had given up on having a windshield after my recent run in left me with Genuine labeled Plexiglas knife shards, my shop tells me that Blur windshields were on the way. Haha! I've heard that one before! This time she really meant it though (she meant it before, but the other end couldn't commit to it, hehe). Well, I went in to get some estimates and ordering done and I walked out with a brand new, unopened Blur windshield. Things are starting to look up for me over here!
If you've had problems getting a windshield, give your shop a call, you might just be pleasantly surprised!

Hi Guys:
Just thought I'd pass this along.....
Now that the Blur windshield are back in stock, I took a gamble and, using that "live.com" search/cashback deal, found one at an ebaY store for about $96 "buy-it-now", or best offer. I took the "buy-it-now" route, and after the 25% cashback rebate I'll be getting it for $85.00 (including shipping). Storefront was the Athens Scooter Company.
Don't know if they'll put any more up, but you might want to keep an eye out for this or a similar deal.
Oh, and yes, I've completely calmed down from the "spare belts" incident and I'm keeping the Blur. Man, I've just gotta learn to take things easier.
Regards,
charlie55

Good for you! I figured you might change your mind. And great find, by the way. If I hadn't gotten mine already, I'd be watching for an ebay deal like a hawk.

Yeah, but I came this close to trading it for a '76 Honda 750 Supersport. Guy in my area put an ad up on Craigslist wanting to trade for a scooter due to medical problems and age. Sent him all the particulars and it looked like a "go" for a while. Then he balked because he didn't think a 150 would haul his 250lbs around very well, and he was concerned about the fact that the nearest dealer was about 50 miles away. Not a big deal, but it would have been one sweet trade.
Well, if I ever do get the itch again, there are always plenty of CB's popping up on Craigslist and ebaY. Guess it's just me, but I've got a thing for those models, as well as those earlier rebels with the two-tone red and white tanks.

Well, I finally got a chance to slap the windshield on. Don't know if it's my particular Blur or not, but I had a devil of a time getting the forward-most bolt on the right side to line up with the hole under the headset. Also could have been the fact that I was working in 34-degree temperatures in an unheated garage. Finally got everything trued up and snugged down after about 45 minutes.
Had a chance to make a couple of runs with it yesterday and today. Only two minor cons:
1) Windshield shakes quite a bit on rough roads. No noise, mind you, just motion.
2) When the wind's coming dead on, the noise level inside my F/F is noticeably increased. Being half-deaf however, it's not that big of a deal.
On the plus side, I was extremely comfortable (except for my fingertips) doing 45-50 in mid-30's temps with wind gusts between 20 and 30 MPH. The "sail" effect was minimal, and I noticed a fairly substantial decrease in RPMs for any given speed over 40. Typically, I'd turn about 6700 @ 50MPH indicated, but now it's more like 63-6400. Might just be a fluke or a matter of perception, but the whole ride feels a bit crisper.
All in all, I think that it was money well-spent.

Getting the bolts to line up just right was a pain on mine as well. The shaking concerned me too, then I loosened the bracket mounts and slid the shield so that it lined up with the bottom of the headset when looking at it from the front. Cutting off that little air dam that was created by mounting it towards the top. I originally mounted it up as high as I could to block off more air. It works a lot better if it's not at the top of the posts.
Hope that helps. Everything you said is right on though. It does seem to help a good bit, but it's a little bit of a pain to mount.

No problem at all. Let me know if that works for you like it did for me. There was still a little vibration, but nothing compared to when I had it mounted at the top of the stalks.
