I had a balding rear tire that went flat on me before I could change it. I replace that tire and now the new tire keeps going flat as well.
Ideas?

Re: Rear tire keeps going low.
Are you talking about tubed tires or tubeless? If it's tubed, there may be something wrong with the inner tube. The person who mounted the tire may have pinched the tube between the tire and the wheel.KidDynomite wrote:I had a balding rear tire that went flat on me before I could change it. If it's tubeless it may indeed be your metal rim has been dinged or slightly bent somewhere so the tire cannot seal properly against it. If you've ridden thru a pothole or bounced the wheel offa curbs, that could happen. Or maybe the person who mounted the tire may have damaged a part of metal rim or maybe bent the tire's bead so it cannot seal right?
It's also possible that the valve stem could have been improperly installed, or damaged...
In any case I would take the bike (or the dismounted wheel) back to whoever mounted the new tire and explain the problem. A new tire should not leak air! They can soak it again and see where the bubbles are coming from to determine where the leak is...
If you changed the tire yourself it's possible you also may have damaged either the rim or the tire, and you may have to replace either, or both.
Good luck,

Unless you're riding a Series Italia, it should be a tubeless tire which either means...
1. the tire you bought was bad
2. your valve is leaking which may have lead to premature wear on the first tire, check to see if its leaking out the mechanism or where the valve seats to the rim (submerging works best)
3. you damaged your rim while riding with a basically flat tire. the new tire is probably fine
but the rim is not
. It'll need to be replaced.
Good luck

As a total aside, I saw Jimmy "JJ" Walker in Vegas. He does standup now and he absolutely will not say Dy-no-mite.
All the other comedians in the show sure do though.
