Scooter stolen in Tucson ;_;

Post by Abbott »

I know there are a lot of Tucson people on here so I thought I would delurk for a bit to note this.

My beautiful, beloved orange 2009 Buddy 125 was gone from the parking lot of my apartment complex when I tried to leave for work this morning.

Here is a pic, it also now has a windshield and a black Givi topcase (with a light kit for the rear brake):

Filed w/the police, called me insurance company, now I just have to wait.
I feel kind of bad because I know someone w/an orange Buddy lives only one block away, and I hope he doesn't get unduly pulled over by the cops. His still has the grab bar, though, and no windshield, so hopefully it won't be a problem for him.

Missing you, Buddy!

Me too. it's not fair! Most scoots are not worth that much except to the owners. Stupid thieves!

Abbott, what part of town are you in. It's been my experience, here in Tucson, that the thieves are usually in your same area.

Start going around your neighborhood and checking public parking lots, and out of the way parking spots (like behind dumpsters) for your scoot. A lot of thieves will park them for a few days in some out of the way place to wait for the attempt to locate on the bike to get stale and then move them someplace more private to sell or strip them.

If you get a call from the cops saying they found it do not waive the impound to save a few bucks if they won't weight. If it was taken by a gang or a group they will sometimes have a person watch the scooter/bike and once the cops walk away from it the scooter will be gone.

I know this sounds far fetched for a scooter theft, but we have been getting reports about this type of activity from jurisdictions all over the country (what can I say, we have one of those people in my department that is on every cop email list there is and forwards everything!). It also happened to my ex girlfriend a couple months ago.

I feel like Pee-Wee Herman right now.

Went on a neighborhood search earlier but I'll keep it up.

wishing you much luck for it's return...or for the thief to be run down by a semi and crushed. That may not be a Christian attitude, but I despise thieves.

Abbott, do you have any additional info? I posted the fact that your bike was stolen on the club facebook page. We have a couple of folk who live/work near that area and are familiar with your scoot.

Do you have a license plate number/ Any additional identifying marks or stickers?

It's got a small purple U of A parking pass sticker on the mud flap thing below the license plate. The topcase is scratched (I bought it used) and it has a small crack in the plastic by the headlight. I feel dumb, I don't have the plate # written down anywhere. Anyone know how I can find that out?

Thanks, everyone, for offering your watchful eyes and sympathy!

Poor lil Orangey (that was its dumb name) never got recovered. The insurance company made everything really easy on me and I had a more than reasonable check two weeks after I made the report, right on the deadline of the timeframe they promised me. Signing up for that $100 deductible on the comprehensive insurance was SMART.

I went to the great local dealership, Scoot Over. They had a St. Tropez 150 used, $1900, only 253 miles, but it needed a new front fork. The people who sold it to them said it was in perfect running condition but they had a towtruck bring it in. It wouldn't turn left right. I went in on a Weds or Thurs, they said they would have it for me by Tuesday. But when the repair guys found out I was taking the bus (scooter's the only transportation I have), they got it done and I had it Firday! This was a couple weeks ago. I've put 300 miles on it since. It's been hot as sin out but riding around with that zippy new engine is just too fun to resist. Here's a pic:

I named her Melody Nelson because she's a Frenchy, and blue. I decided to get a really distinctive sticker for it so if it gets stolen again I can tell the cops it has Abraham Lincoln kicking a tire on the front, which I think I will be alone in here in Tucson. More importantly, I got a Xena alarm lock for it which I should probably adjust the sensitivity on because it has gone off at 4 a.m. 3x in the past two weeks, and when I go to look, no one's there. Everyone in my apartment complex probably hates me for this because that thing is loud.

Nice. I like happy endings. And I have to say I'm quite partial to St. Tropez's :P

The Xena's are awesome safety gizmos. You can adjust their sensitivity by how you put it on the scooter. Point it up to 12 o'clock to be the most sensitive, down to 6pm to be the least. Hope that helps.

Sorry about Orangy but the St. Tropez is a lovely thing to behold. Glad it worked out. Love happy endings.

Congrats on your new ride! I'm a big fan of "comprehensive" on my insurance policy too.

I wonder if someone was messing with it, then ran away each time it went off...?
