Greetings to all. My name is Bonnie.

Hello everyone. My name is Bonnie. I just picked up a new Buddy 50 two days ago. This is my first Genuine scooter. My last scooter was a Honda Ruckus. I have also owned many motorcycles including a Triumph Bonneville. I live in South Florida. I was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers about mods I can do to make my buddy go faster. I had her up to 52 mph. Does anyone know how many more MPH I can get if I put on an aftermarket exhaust on her? Thanks! Ride Safe! ...Bonnie

 I'm guessing 52 was the reading on the speedometer (which is usually in the neighborhood of 10% high), because that's already faster than I've gone on my Buddy 50. I assume you've already had it derestricted, because otherwise you'd need a hurricane-force tailwind or a really steep hill to get a Buddy 50 up to that speed. :)

I can't give you any first-hand tips beyond that (I'm content with the speeds I can already hit), but I'm told a performance exhaust can add about 10% to the engine's power. Another option is to replace the cylinder with a larger one, but that kind of mod can have an adverse effect on the engine's long-term reliability.

You might get smoother 52 from Dr. Pulley sliders.

Otherwise, 50mph on a buddy 50, that's pretty rad. You know from owning bigger bikes that if you wanna go faster than that, buy a bigger bike :P.

If it is new you should be breaking it in. 52 mph is pretty good for a 50cc, if you want to go faster you should get a 125 or 170.

Welcome to MB!

You're doing pretty well for a 50cc Buddy. There is always more you can do but it gets expensive and can reduce reliability.

Many will suggest a bigger scooter but if the 50cc does what you need it to there is no reason you shouldn't stick with it

We also hold a tech day once a year or so at Casa Raton to help each other out with... whatever. There are also a few of us gear heads that get together to work on mods, rebuilds etc.

Exactly right. For a stock Buddy, almost unbelievably good. I'm not dissing 50s, but it is a matter of your expectations and how you intend to use the bike. A 50 may or may not do the job. Scooters comes in a wide variety of sizes, speeds, and capabilities. Match the bike to your needs (desires  ).

Welcome!

I'm sort of guessing that if you've owned a Ruckus you're no stranger to modding...

My advice would be throw a kit on it ;-)

Thanks to all who responded to my post! My little buddy is very quick. The speedo said 52mph. This was on a perfectly flat road with no wind. I am aware that most speedometers are off a bit. But my Buddy 50 seemed like it was rocket powered when compared to my 50cc Honda Scooters.

That's probably because Honda uses 4-stroke 50cc engines, and Genuine uses a 2-stroke 50cc. A little louder, but more kick.

I don't know if it would make a difference on a 50, but on my 150 Blackjack, I got about another 5-10mph top speed by adding a windshield.

I 2nd a medium sized wind shield., and the switch to sliders.
after that you can get a little more technicial and do some carb/air-box/and exhaust mods.

i really impressed that yours can do 53, ive put alot into mine and it tops out at 55.

I agree that the windshield will give you a boost in top speed.
Plus it makes riding more enjoyable as you will eat less bugs! :bleh:

A face shield on the helmet will also accomplish that last part. :)
