That does seem to be the fate of most scooters, doesn't it? Or so it seems.
This one was ridden off and on over a period of 3 years. More off than on.
This one (I won't say the brand YET because it would be sacrilege on the Modern Buddy forum!) is a fuel injected Honda model.
Original owner, kept in their garage, they had no clue ("do people really do that?" when I mentioned trickle charger in storage) as to how to store an unused scooter, and it had been ridden maybe twice in the last year.
When it was ridden it had just over 1,000 miles put on it. Very clean, very nice family, had literally JUST ridden it near the house because as I drove up I saw the seller stopping it and getting off.
I go to start it up and it is dead. No surprise there, though they seemed surprised. So I had to explain that even though it ran fine for a few, the last charge just died out. Now it very likely needs a totally new battery.
Thus began the inquiry-ever had oil change? "No". "No" to battery maintenance, check. No to any maintenance or service interval work.
It was as clean as a brand new showroom floor scoot and I want it very, very much.
They are going to get it made "right" with the local Honda dealer and get a new battery.
Took a small deposit dependent upon getting it "right".
The price is right, the scooter is the right choice for me (I had one in the past and foolishly let it go, long story), but the sitting worries me a bit.
It's a Honda. It's fuel-injected. It's clean. It seems only to need a new battery.
It sat with gas and oil in it in a climate controlled garage.
Ok, whaddayas think?
Am I courting disaster here or what?
