Oil change - Buddy 125
Using a quality six point 17mm socket on the engine oil drain plug, but the nut edges are going soft. I am pushing it up high. Any tips?

If you're using a 12 point socket you'll damage the drain plug. Use a 6 point instead. I actually use 6 point sockets for everything because they are more secure and have less chance of damaging bolt heads and nuts.
My bad...I didn't read the part that said you used a 6 point socket, sorry.
The good news is that the drain plug is one of those parts on a PGO engine that is generic GY6.
