re-jetting the 50cc buddy

Hello, i just got a kit from scooterworks to upgrade my 50cc buddy.. it came with the prima pipe, rear spring, new weights and jets.. I'm not all that experienced as far as working on scooters, but i think i can do all the installation work myself.

The only thing i am having trouble with is this, the kit came with 3 new jets:

- an 80
- an 85 and
- a 90

I am confused as to where each of them go.. Which one replaces the main jet? Where do the other ones go?

I tried searching for an answer but had little luck. Hope you guys can help.. Thanks!

Any one of them could replace the main jet. They are all the same shape/thread correct? It seems they wisely sent you a range to try. Different climates and elevations result in different jetting needs. Start high and work low.

I am waiting for the arrival of the Malossi 70 cc Kit for my buddy 50. I am also going to be changing out the exhaust. I am pretty excited to see how the little buddy handles with the kit and pipe.

Make sure with this modification you also replace the drive belt to a kevlar one. I shredded mine the first day on a different scoot. I won't have my buddy 50 until next week. I currently have a United motors xpeed50. It has 70 cc kit, racing exhaust, new clutch springs, new roller weights, and larger carb. This scooter also has reed valve induction from the carb. The reeds couldn't take the extra pressure. If the buddy has the same they need to be replaced with carbon fiber ones. This mod has also messed up my air fuel mixture. I am going to have to re jet the carb as well. Am planning on doing that after I get my buddy.

The buddy has reeds (as with almost all modern 2 stroke scooters). Stock ones work OK, but the Malossi kit comes with carbon reeds.

I put the stage 1 kit on my neighbors buddy last summer

the stock reeds were fine as was the stock belt
and we ended up using the #80 main jet in the kit

the bike tops out in the mid 50s acceleration is great
he only has about 1200 miles on the kit so far with no problems at all..... but remember this we are in the Chicago area ..... jetting might be different in your area

So.. I will try them all.. uhm, not to look even dumber than i already do, but how will i know if its not the right size?

For what it's worth, i am 28 feet above sea level.. According to google, Chicago is about 586 feet above sea level..

Is it the higher up you are the smaller your jet should be?
